Director Stanley Nelson’s documentary Freedom Riders tells the story of the more than four hundred Americans who, in 1961, stared down the dangers of Deep South racial tensions to make a statement about segregation. Sean McCord spoke with Nelson about the film, screening Friday at Culbreth, and the director’s long career as a documentary filmmaker.
